NUMBER OF HOURS WE SHOULD SLEEP

BLOG

Every day we usually end up exhausted, if we don’t want this to happen we must have a good rest. But… do we know the number of hours we should sleep?

On many occasions, for family reasons, work, studies, etc., we say that we have slept very little, yesterday I should have gone to bed earlier, today I have been up early, among many other thoughts. What we almost never stop to think about is how long we should sleep to get some rest.

The hours of rest depend on each person, according to the World Health Organization, the normal thing is that the human being has approximately 8 hours of consecutive sleep every night, and thus to be able to spend the day in perfect physical and mental faculties.

The moment we do not rest for a minimum of hours every day, is when we may have health problems, something to which we must give the importance it deserves, that is to say, a lot.

And you… how many hours do you have to sleep?

  • Infants (1 and 2 years old): Before the first birthday, it is normal for them to sleep between 10 and 16 hours, as they get older they have less need to sleep. It is not recommended that the baby sleep less than 9 hours a day.
  • Preschoolers (3 to 5 years old): The recommended hours are 10 to 13 hours, although it is also acceptable if they sleep between 8 and 14 hours.
  • Children (6 to 13 years old): In this case, the number of hours of sleep is between 9 and 11 hours, which is normal and acceptable if the children sleep between 7 and 12 hours.
  • Teenagers (14 to 17 years old): If you are in this age group, you should know that the recommended hours are between 8 and 10, on the other hand, it is also acceptable if you sleep between 7 and 11 hours.
  • Young people (from 18 to 25 years old): It is recommended to sleep between 7 and 9 hours, the number of hours accepted is between 6 and 11, on the contrary, it is not recommended to sleep less than 6 hours.
  • Adults (26 to 64 years old): This is the longest age range, the recommended time is the same as for young people, i.e. between 7 and 9 hours, although it is also acceptable to sleep between 6 and 10 hours.
  • Elderly (65 years and older): As we get older, the number of hours our body needs to sleep is lower. The recommendation is to be able to do it between 7 and 8 hours.

And now… do you sleep the necessary hours?

Many people say, for me it’s enough to sleep 4 hours a night, I’ve slept almost nothing and I’m great, I don’t need more than 5 hours of sleep, etc…. Just because you don’t need it doesn’t mean it’s good for your health.

We should know that it is never advisable to sleep less than 6 hours, whatever our age.
